李蔷花是贫穷的渔家女子，跟富家子弟杨逢春日久生情，但是门不当户不对，杨母则让逢春娶表妹王秀梅，逢春执意娶蔷花，杨母对蔷花恨之入骨，加上表妹秀梅跟她表哥阿飘设计陷害蔷花，导致怀孕在身的蔷花被赶出杨家，生死未卜。逢春出差回来懊悔不已，秀梅终于坐上杨家少奶奶的位置，但逢春对秀梅没有感情，正所谓强扭的瓜不甜。阿飘因为欠了一屁股债，几次找秀梅拿钱，不然抖出他们之间的丑事，最后被杨母发现，秀梅羞愧而投井自尽。逢春在酒楼找到了蔷花，可蔷花得了肝病，不久也撒手人寰，留下一大遗憾。。St. Jude Square is a neighborhood living in fear and despair.
