实习医生韵霞到医院实习第一天就遇上医闹大闹病房，导致正在怀孕的护士紫兰受惊后出现先兆流产，让韵霞感受到当前的医疗环境困惑而害怕，产生放弃将来做医生的愿望。紫兰、李晓强获悉后动之以情，晓之以理，使她重新振作。果然，当她成为妇产科新医生后，众人惊叹万分，也引来无尽猜想。期间，因为她已渐渐喜欢上李晓强，并且，两人相互之间也有了好感。可她表姐生前为李晓强画的情感圈，使晓强犹豫不决，始终徘徊在圈内；韵霞在圈外迷茫，真是进退两难，不知所措。 空巢老人冯冯在家患胆囊炎，诱发感染性休克，而他的儿子不顾他的死活，沉迷在麻将台上，延缓了救治时间。结果，这医患双方的矛盾被医闹所利用，爆发出激烈的冲突。但医务人员始终以救死扶伤为宗旨，克制，冷静，温暖，关爱，化解医患纠纷，让参与采访的媒体深深感动。 一场突如其来的“艾滋病风波”又让参与抢救的医务人员陷入重重困惑之中，但对医疗事业执着的追求又让他们坚守医疗岗位。由于平时严格医疗操作常规又让他们避免“艾滋病风波”的感染，更增添他们对医疗事业的信心。。Disarmingly realistic in its depiction of the realities of frontier life, Heartland is a strong antidote to the cliches of traditional Westerns. This semi-documentary slice of life is based on the diaries of Elmore Randall Stewart about her days on the Wyoming frontier in the early 20th century. It's a strongly feminist statement about a woman raising her small daughter alone and scrapping for a living by working for a shy Scottish rancher. Director Richard Pearce brings an endearing touch to a film that is helped greatly by the dazzling cinematography of Fred Murphy. Conchata Ferrell and Rip Torn star in this small film that substitutes veracity for a high-powered plot. Pearce worked as a cinematographer on Woodstock and other documentaries before making his directorial debut. Winner of the 1980 Berlin Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival。
