陆建设是科技首富，归隐后在自己办起来的第一个厂子做了个看门的保安。儿子陆子轩在厂里当工程师。陆子轩不知道陆建设得身份，对自己的父亲一直有意见。儿子造出了北城一号，陆建设来参加剪彩仪式，却被现任厂长和工人嘲笑。Photographer Greg Nolan meets Bernice, and loses both his job and his apartment. However, Bernice manages to get him a new apartment, but it is so expensive that he has to get two full-time jobs. Nolan has trouble finding time to do them both without his bosses finding out.。
