商场魔术手的弟弟乔江河因得罪沈阳势力人物熊飞而遭遇枪击，警方为保障其安全，派保护证人组进驻乔家。许玮琛作为督察，在执行任务中结识了乔江河的侄女乔子琳。子琳患有情绪病，性格孤僻冷漠。起初许玮琛与队员均认为子琳是被宠坏的千金，但相处中，玮琛改变对子琳的看法。 熊飞特意来港和乔氏兄弟正式和解，可是席间横生枝节，最终江河重伤，一名路过的退休大法官却被流弹击毙。此时正在回家的子琳成为凶案的唯一目击证人，警方再次派出保护证人组保护子琳。在保护子琳的过程中，许玮琛多次以身犯险，甚至不顾危险保护她视若珍宝的大提琴，令子琳暗生情愫。但乔父误以为是玮琛利用职务之便追求子琳，大为恼火，子琳勇敢认爱，玮琛却因门第差距拒绝。在玮琛又一次救了子琳后，乔父不再阻拦，二人处于朋友以上恋人未满的状态。然而许玮琛在执行任务时调查出乔江山与一桩陈年绑架案有关，最终为救乔江山被唐俊佳撞伤，死在子琳怀中。。One day, thinking that it will make your wife and friends smile, you shave off the moustache that you have had for the last ten years. Viewers who like their conclusions tidy may rebel, but those who relish outstanding performances in the service of an intriguing idea will be entertained.
